Mini 7’s Girls’ Football Finals 2020
On Thursday the 23rd of January the girls’ 7-a-side Gaelic Football team took part in the mini 7’s final in James’ Park. We had to come through 2 qualifying rounds to reach the finals stage. It was a foggy, cold day and our opponents were Tullaroan, Dunnamaggin and Gaelscoil. Each team had to play 3 matches and the winners would be decided by the team with the most points at the end of the day. In the first match we played Tullaroan and this was very tough, closely fought match but we managed to win on a scoreline of St. Canice’s 3-3 Tullaroan 0-1.In our second game we took on Dunnamaggin and with some great teamwork and scores we emerged on top. St. Canice’s 6-1 Dunnamaggin 2-1. Our final match was against Gaelscoil, by then we had really found our scoring boots and after a very competitive match we ran out winners. St. Canice’s 7-1 to Gaelscoil 2-0. Each player gave it their all and everyone played their part on the day with forwards taking some excellent scores, midfielders covering every blade of grass on the field, our backs defending bravely and cutting out any attacks and our goalie pulling off some super saves too! The team was as follows: Zoe Galvin, Jill Dalton, Ali Greaney, Jodie Morgan, Sarah Richardson, Ayesha Belaoui, Caoimhe Timmons Orlaith Donnelly, Katie Chambers, Mia Duggan, Emma Hogan, Megan Trait. Grainne Wall. A big thank you to all the parents for driving us to matches and to Mrs. Comerford, Ms. Murphy and Ms. Alyward for giving up their lunch breaks to train us.
