Playground
We are delighted to have our new playground equipment installed. The equipment is to E.U. standards, is for age 4+ and has the required safety surface for the height of the equipment.
As it is all designed to suit a variety of ages and as children have different abilities, there will be some pieces of equipment that your child might not be ready to use. The Monkey bars seem to be the most challenging.
I will be visiting the Junior classes tomorrow to discuss this with them and to reassure them that it is ok not to go on certain items until they feel ready to do so and also to look for help if they want to try something they are not sure they can manage. There are plenty of pieces there to keep everyone happy. Children should not throw the bark around as it is needed as part of the safety surface.
If you could give the same message at home it would be great. Feel free also at drop off or collection time to bring your child with you to the playground to help them become comfortable in using the equipment.
Obviously there is no school supervision of the equipment outside of school hours so use of the playground is at your own risk.
Sport
Our girls’ football team competed in the 7- a -side County Final yesterday but came up against a very strong Gowran side who won the title to add to the camogie title they had won the previous day.
Our boys however managed to perform a great feat of pulling off the double by winning both hurling on Tuesday and football on Wednesday. This is the first time that we have ever won this competition so we are delighted and great credit is due to the players and their trainers who gave their all for this highly competitive event.
The three boys’ teams and two girls’ teams continue their league campaigns.
Training continues for all.
Swimming: The Junior Gala takes place on Monday 12th and the Senior Gala on Monday 19th. Both are at 12pm. Competitors in the Junior Gala have received a note regarding the arrangements for next Monday and Senior competitors will receive one next week.
Clothes Collection
We are trying to help some of our past pupils now in Loreto in a fundraising venture. They have succeeded in being chosen to participate in “Mock Trials” in October in New York. They have to raise a significant amount of money for this. They visited the classrooms and requested that the children would bring in clothes for a used clothes collection. The response has been minimal and tomorrow is the closing date so if you have any used clothes please send them in in the morning.
Gairdin na Scoile
Thank you to Rosaleen Murphy for donating a huge amount of plants for the garden. Lettuce was sown toady and peas tomorrow hopefully.
Work has begun in the fenced off area at the apple trees on setting a sensory garden which will have plants for all five senses. Mr Ryan and Ms Corcoran and their pupils will be working on this and we will be looking for some parents to help out some morning next week. I will send out an email when the date has been set.
Uniform Sales
There will be a used uniform sale at the Junior Infant Induction Day and also at the Car Boot Sale so donations of uniforms are welcome from the start of June on. You can drop them off into reception. Hopefully the weather will be warm enough for Summer Uniform by then.
