March 2023
8th March
On Monday evening our school received some very disappointing news. Our new school building which should have started construction by now has been put on hold due to capital funding pressures. As a school we are still looking for further updates on this as we were given no further information on how long this the delay in construction will be. We will endeavour to keep our school community informed as we seek further updates on this.
On a happier note our Sixth class had their Service of Light last night as they get ready for their Confirmation on the 25th of March. Last nights service was a lovely school occasion and we wish our 6th class the best over the next two weeks as they get ready.
Next week our school has a huge amount of activities planned for Seachtain na Gaeilge. We look forward to a week of songs, dancing, art and tables quiz tri Gaeilge. We will be closed on Friday the 17th of March( St Patrick's Day).
Maytime Melodies
Every two years St Canice’s N.S Instrumental Music Programme presents the “Maytime Melodies” two night concert. This year’s concerts will be held on Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th of May 2023 and will be extra special as it marks the programme's 40th birthday.
The concerts feature all 400 young musicians who participate in the music programme throughout the year. The children are aged between 4 and 12 years of age and play a variety of string, brass, wind, and percussion instruments. The success of the music programme is dependent on assistance from the teachers and the many parents who volunteer their time as well as fundraising for the purchase and upkeep of the instrument bank. Tickets for this event will be going on sale in March - we will let you know the specific date once it is confirmed.
Maytime Melodies is the major fundraiser for the music programme and every second year we ask our local businesses in Kilkenny to support the programme by either advertising in the concert programme or donating/sponsoring a raffle prize.
Are you new to the Music Programme? Would you have or know a local business that would like to advertise in our Maytime Melodies Programme or donate a raffle prize?
If so, it is very easy to do so, you can send us your company's advertising artwork via email to:
[email protected] and we will send you a payment link based on the below:
€90 full page advert
€50 half page advert
€30 quarter page advert
All artwork & payments needs to be received by 31st of March 2023 to give us time to work with the printers to finalize the programme and have it printed in time for our big event.
If you don’t want to advertise, but wish to make a donation, you will be listed as a friend of the Music Programme in our programme booklet. Any donation is hugely appreciated as a music programme of this size and nature requires significant ongoing funding.
2nd March Today we wish our pupils in second class the best of luck as they receive the sacrament of penance in St Canice's church at 7pm. We would ask that all families are seated at least 15 minutes beforehand.
On Tuesday the 7th of March the children in 6th class will have their service of light as they get ready to make their confirmation. The service will begin at 7pm in St Canice's church.
County Photos visited the school yesterday and all classes, families and individual children had their photos taken.
