Active Walkway
Our Active Walkway
Our new active walkway is now in place on the school grounds. The children are being introduced to the 14 colourful signs which are a new feature of our daily movement breaks.
Ms. Hickey, six fifth class students and Alan, our caretaker walked around the school grounds and chose the best locations for each sign. The signs are located in various different settings for example our school garden fence, the fence of our playing field, the wall of our hall and a wall near our playground equipment. They measured the distance of the walkway with a trundle wheel thus combining maths with physical activity. The total length of our walkway is 656 metres.
A map was made showing the location of each sign. Each teacher was given copy of the map. Every class will be introduced to the walkway and will complete at least one of the Active Flag walkway worksheets during the month of March.
