Our Senior A team put in a splendid performance, scoring 69 out of 72 to come in as winners on the night, bringing the trophy back to the school on Tuesday. They will now represent us in the regional final in March. Thank you to Ms Sheehan for organising our teams and the monthly News Quiz.
Parents’ Association Table Quiz
Well done to our Parents’ Association on organising a successful night in Palmerstown. Thank you to all the families who supported the event. A great night was had by all and €1000 raised towards our Mobile Class Laptop Station.
Health Promoting School
We have decided to participate in the Health Promoting Schools’ project. This will be instead of the Green Flag project which has been very successful over the years. Mr Crowley will take over the co-ordination.
One of the first steps is to organise a committee. We already have several staff volunteers, the process for recruiting pupil volunteers is underway and now we need some parent volunteers. It is a two year project where we identify areas to target to improve the overall health and wellbeing of the school community. If you would like to become involved please email me at canprincipal@eircom.net. We have an initial meeting with Aileen Scott from the H.S.E. tomorrow, Tuesday at 12.30 pm regarding starting the project but if you can’t make that and would still like to be involved that is fine.
I.A.Y.O.
Our Senior orchestra under the baton of Ruth O’Leary gave an outstanding performance in the National Concert Hall on Feb. 7th. They received two standing ovations and were a credit to their families, school and Kilkenny. Our mayor, Andrew McGuinness and Junior Minister Ann Phelan attended on the night and were highly impressed by the talent, commitment and hard work shown by all. Well done to everyone.
Engineering Week
Last week, to mark Engineering Week, 4th class travelled to WIT to participate in Motor and Structures workshops, 2nd & 3rd went to The Watergate for The Engineering Show and 6th class had a visit from a local engineer to talk/demonstrate about structures and foundations.
2nd class “Titanic” models and 4th class Lighthouse projects are currently on display in the foyer. Feel free to call in and have a look. We obviously have many talented parents as well as children!
Lost Property
While you are in around the school please take a visit to Lost property in the First Aid room to see if any of your child’s belongings are there. We will distribute any named items this week.
Swimming
Congratulations to Naomi Trait who won a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle and Becky Peters who swam a PB in the breast stroke when they represented the school in the National Finals in the Aquatic Centre on Feb. 8th
