Catholic Schools’ Week
The theme for Catholic Schools’ Week this year is “Catholic Schools: Called to Serve” Various activities will take place during the week. Fr. Jim will visit many of the classes. Our Diocesan Advisor, Mrs Sadie Bacon, spent two days in the school last week visiting all classes and speaking on the theme: “Called to Serve”. As a school, we will be highlighting “Called to Serve through Kindness”. We will build up a “Kindness Wall” during the week so please encourage your child to be particularly aware of being kind and carrying out acts of kindness next week and then adding his/her act of kindness to the wall in words or in picture form.
Gairdín na Scoile
Ms O’Brien is looking for parent volunteers to help out in the garden aver the next few months. If you send your name and mobile number to her she will contact you when work is taking place.
Confirmation
It is the custom in the school that 5th class children support their 6th class schoolmates by forming the choir for confirmation. As well as helping out on the day, this also gives the 5th class children an insight into the sacrament of confirmation and makes them familiar with the whole order of the ceremony. All 5th class pupils will be expected to sing at the Confirmation on Saturday January 31st. If there is a pressing reason why your child cannot be there please put a note in the homework diary to your 5th class teacher.
Thank you to the large number of 6th class parents who volunteered to lead the Parish Confirmation programme. It was a great success and is very beneficial to the pupils.
Parents’ Association
The P.A. are currently running movie nights for different classes. Tonight is the turn of 2nd class who will watch “Frozen.”
Their next fundraising/social outing is a Family Quiz Night which will take place in Dicksboro, Palmerstown clubrooms on Thursday Feb 12th. Further details later.
This year is also a Summer Fete year and in preparation, the P.A. will take donations of unwanted Christmas gifts and store them until the Fete. You can leave any items at reception.
Board of Management Reminder.
Please drop off and collect your children punctually. It is not fair to leave children waiting as they become anxious. The school yard is quite a daunting place outside school hours and is not an ideal environment for a child left uncollected. If you are delayed please phone ahead and we can reassure your child that everything is ok. The school playground is supervised from 8.40 to 8.50am in the mornings.
Parking outside the gates has become a problem as people are parking on the zig zag lines and obstructing the view of drivers exiting the school. It is a very dangerous practice and we ask you to obey the rules of the road and the road signs as this will help us all keep the children safe.
Happy New Year to one and all.
