Parent Teacher Meetings
Thursday 22nd : 2.45 to 5.15pm is the official Parent/Teacher Meeting evening. As well as that afternoon, Parent Teacher Meetings will be held up to and including that week, at mutually convenient times. Please make sure that you contact your child’s teacher to arrange a meeting. Appointment forms have gone out. If you have not received one, check with your child. Spare copies are available from the office. The appointment times are quite short on the afternoon so if you have a lengthy issue to discuss please arrange an appointment for a more suitable time.
As part of our School Improvement Plan, you will be asked for feedback on Talk Time, Mise ag Caint and homework initiatives.
Pupils will be finished school at 2.30pm that day to facilitate the meetings. If you are collecting at infant time, 1.45 and it suits you better, you can collect your older children at the same time. Please inform the class teacher by note in your child’s journal.
Homework Hour will not take place on Thursday 22nd.
All music classes are also cancelled for this week.
Internet Safety
I have organised Internet Safety Seminars for 2nd to 6th classes, staff and parents to take place over two days, Nov 26th & 27th. A firm called Zeeko will deliver workshops for 2nd -6th class pupils during the day. This will be followed by a staff workshop after school on Tuesday and a parents’ workshop also on the Tuesday 7-8pm.
This will be funded from our school fundraising account and the Parents’ Association jointly. The total cost is €1000. Zeeko previously delivered these workshops in 2015.
Approximately a quarter of the pupils have responded to the pre seminar Zeeko survey. The link I sent you last week has been amended to allow for multiple responses. Please get your child to fill in the survey so that our workshops can be tailored to our specific needs.
Football
Best of luck to our girls’ football team who take on Dunamaggin in the rearranged Roinn A final at 3pm in Palmerstown tomorrow-Thursday 15th.
Best of luck to our boys’ football team who take on Thomastown in the Roinn A final at 11am in Dunmore on Saturday next Nov 17th.
Girls’ B panel continue in the Shield competition.
School Girls’ lunch time league final will take place next week, weather permitting.
Charity Collection
November’s Charity Collection will be held over until Friday December 14th when we invite pupils to wear their Christmas Jumper and to make a donation to Crumlin’s children’s hospital. This was a very popular fundraiser last year. Jumper is an umbrella term for any Christmas/festive gear- dress, tights, bobbles, hat, scarf etc. A substantial number of our pupils or their siblings are linked in with Crumlin’s Children’s Services and it is a very worthy cause.
This will coincide with the Orchestra Breakfast morning and should make for a very festive atmosphere overall.
Lost and Found
As usual, there are lots of items in the lost and found store. Please use your visit to the parent/teacher meetings as an opportunity to search for any lost items. Some named items have also gone missing so perhaps you can check at home to see if your child has brought home the wrong uniform or tracksuit. Named items in lost and found should only be taken by their owners.
Mise ag Caint
The Mise ag Caint initiative will continue in all classes until Christmas. This is basically an Irish version of Talk Time. Most teachers have sent out resources for parents who wish to help their child to prepare. The best way to support your child is to be positive about the experience, to help them recall sentences and phrases they have learned in school, if possible, to add in a sentence of your own and finally to listen to your children practise the talk.
Children are learning a huge amount of Irish in school and we look at this initiative as a way of bringing Irish from being a book based subject to being a spoken language. It will be challenging at the start but the children are being well supported and we look forward to revisiting Mise ag Caint in the second term and seeing an improvement in confidence and competence.
Thank you for your support
