Information Sheet: May 18
Dates to Remember:
School Closed next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, May 7, 8 &9th.
Friday May 4th: Autism Awareness Blue Day(see below).
Friday May 25th: School Closed for Referendum Voting.
Tuesday June 19th: Junior Infant Induction Day 11.30-12.30
Power Cut Tomorrow Friday 4th
We have been informed verbally but have not received written notice that the electricity supply will be cut off tomorrow from 9am -5pm.
The school will remain open. With the slightly milder temperatures, the heat would be turned off at 9.30am this week anyway. Teachers will manage without the whiteboards and the fire alarm runs on a back-up battery for the day.
The only thing that might affect parents is that generally our phones don’t work either so please bear this in mind if you are trying to phone and getting no answer.
Autism Awareness Blue Day
Many of the classes have been using Autism Awareness resources, lessons and film clips over the past two weeks to raise the children’s awareness and knowledge of Autism.
Tomorrow we will have a Blue Day where we ask everyone to come in dressed in blue. There will be various blue activities during the day e.g. several classes will be doing run/walk a “Blue Mile”, the whole school will be involved in making a “Blue Jigsaw” of what we know about autism and how we can better understand and support our friends and classmates who are on the spectrum.
Our May Charity Collection tomorrow will be for Autism Awareness, if you would like to make a donation.
Fundraising Events
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Ciara and Richie Holland who climbed Croagh Patrick with a group over Easter and raised €6000 for our ASD classes and €6000 for Enable Ireland. Secondly, to Michelle Massey who, again over Easter, organised a tribute band as a fundraiser for our ASD classes. This venture raised €4650.
These funds are a huge boost to our unit and will be used for the pupils’ benefit. I will let you know how the money has been used once it is finalised.
Sport
Hurling and camogie training and leagues continue on. Congratulations to our boys panel who won the CountyFinal of the INTO sevens hurling this morning in Nowlan Park. Unfortunately our girls lost out in the camogie finals this afternoon.
This was a reverse of the football results where the girls won the county final and the boys narrowly lost.
As always a huge thanks to all the teachers who give so generously of their time and talents to facilitate all these sporting activities.
