St Canice's Co-Ed N.S. is an Active School
What an amazing day in our school. Not only did our Senior Choir win in the Feis Ceoil but we raised the school’s first Active Flag. Mary Fitzgerald who is one of our most famous past pupils raised the flag. Mary is an inspiration to us all and her speech to the school community hopefully will inspire future Olympic athletes . Ms Tallis who has done trojan work in gaining this flag deserves great credit.
Physical Education is a very important part of our curriculum. We place an emphasis on participation for all ,
team work, fair play and enjoyment. We share our hall we the local parish and we are very
lucky to have access to a very large playing field.
This year we are putting an emphasis on PE ‘as Gaeilge’. All classes are enjoying their PE
lessons through the medium of Irish and tá na daltaí ag baint an-taitneamh as.
Here are some of the different sports and activities that we participate in.
In St Canice’s, we are on a mission to earn an Active School flag. The Active school Flag Initiative is a Department of Education and Skills Initiative (DES) supported by Healthy Ireland, which aims to get schools more active, more often. ASF schools promote inclusive physical activity throughout the school day and work in partnerships with others to promote a physically active school community. The ASF is accredited to schools who strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community.
