Mission Money
Ms Walsh has taken over the collection of the Mission Money.
Every Friday we make a collection for deserving causes. Children are encouraged to make a small contribution each week. If you have a charity/cause that you would like us to contribute to please contact me, Mrs Comerford, in good time as we have certain set collections that we make every year. September money this year goes to our sponsored pupil in the Philippines. We have also had several requests from Transition Year students to help with their fundraising ventures. The end of year info sheet always includes a list of the amounts donated to various charities during the year
No Uniform Day
We are supporting the O’Neill Centre, Enable Ireland No Uniform Day fund raiser this year. Flyers have already gone out about this. Many of our pupils have attended the centre and continue to benefit from the valuable services provided and we are happy to support this worthy cause. Tomorrow, Friday 25th October is the chosen day. General contribution is €1 but all donations are welcome.
Shoe Boxes
This is our 12th year to participate in this project. We aim to have 600 shoe boxes by the closing date, Nov.11th. Sr. Brigid has returned to co-ordinate this venture.
Traffic
Over the midterm break, work is due to be carried out to define the Set Down area in the front yard and make it clear to everyone. Once this is done-There should be no parking in this area at all. It is there to keep a clear flow of traffic through the yard.
A map will be sent out with the next Info Sheet the first week back in November.
Parents’ Association
The new committee was elected at the last meeting. Chairperson: Shane Forsey, Secretary: Jo Gogarty and Treasurer: Stephen O’Neill. A huge thank you to the outgoing officers, Matt Peters, Mary Malin and Mary Davis for their outstanding work over the past two years.
Hall Clean-Up---Volunteers Required.
The first project the Parents’ Association committee will undertake is a clean-up and painting of the community hall which is used on a daily basis by our school for P.E. classes. The proposed date for this work is Saturday November 30th. If you can spare a couple of hours that day to help out please contact Matt Peters on 086 2390942
Sports
League action is nearly at an end in both the boys and girls Gaelic football competitions..
In the Kilkenny City Harriers Primary Schools’ Athletics we won the three trophies: Boys’ team, girls’ team and best overall school. Well done to all our runners. We were delighted to welcome World Champion and past pupil, Mary Fitzgerald, to present the individual and team medals and the trophies to our athletes. Mary spoke about her experiences at the World Championships in Michigan and answered a wide variety of questions from 4th, 5th and 6th class pupils.
GENERAL AMNESTY!!
Over the years a significant number of school items have gone missing. Some of these are sitting in your hot press, attic etc. We are asking you to have a look for and return any of the following items at any stage. They can be dropped to the relevant teacher or into reception---No Questions Asked! We are looking for—Jerseys-what you think is a Dicksboro jersey might be a school one, musical instruments, orchestra sweatshirts and music cases, library books and anything else that might be school property.
Emails
I am aiming to have between 80 and 90% of the Info Sheets delivered by email this year. It is far more efficient, economical and labour saving for us and it also means that the parent body can be contacted /kept informed in any emergency or out of school situation.. Children have been “incentivised” to get you on board! If you have not already done so, please submit your email either straight tostcanicesnotes@gmail.com or submit through the school website www.stcanices.net The website is kept up to date and is a good way of keeping up to speed with school activities.
