Early promise in opener v CBS
19/3/2014 St. Canices 3-5 C.B.S. 0-4
We played our first competitive match of the season today and had a good win against CBS.
Our internal school league only began two weeks ago due to the inclement weather, and both sides showed some signs of rustiness on the dry but bumpy James Park sod.
We lost the toss and played against the stiff breeze in the first half. The exchanges were even enough, but our strong defence looked quite comfortable dealing with the CBS attack, and when we led 1- to 0-2 at half time, we were in a strong position. Our goal was a " push over" effort, finished by Shay McEvoy, while our point came from Eoin O Neill, who had just come on for the injured Aaron Murphy.
We had more possession in the second half, and we out scored our opponents 2-4 to 0-2 in this half. Our two goals came from the sharp shooter Eoin Dalton, two points from the stick of Killian Hackett, a long range point from Kevin Fitzpatrick and a final solo effort from the impressive Timmy Clifford.
This was a tough encounter- just ask the players today! Our boys stood up very well to the challenge, and this augers well for future matches. Our next outing is away to Clara next week.
