March 2016
Dates to Remember:
March 15th Proclamation Ceremony 11.45
March 16th Easter Holidays. School closes for pupils 12 noon.
Monday April 4th: Final term begins.
Proclamation Ceremony
For our Proclamation Ceremony tomorrow, we will have a short “paráid” around the school. Classes will then assemble at the front of the school to sing “Óró ‘sE do Bheatha Abhaile”. 6th class will present various characters involved in 1916. We will read the School Proclamation, raise the flag at 12 noon and sing “Amhrán na bhFiann”
Children may dress in green, white or orange for the day but the raising of the flag, however, will be a solemn occasion.
6th class musicians please remember your instruments and music for playing “Amhrán na bhFiann” tomorrow.
Parents are welcome to come to the ceremony if they wish but the school gates will be closed from 10.30 to 12.30 to ensure the safety of the pupils as they set up their chairs and parade around the school.
Homework Hour
There will be no homework hour tomorrow Tuesday.
Easter Raffle
Thank you to everyone who supported our Easter Raffle. Almost €5000 was raised. Thank you to Mr Nolan for organising this event.
Seachtain na Gaeilge
A great week of activities and “labhairt na Gaeilge” took place last week. The Art and Handwriting Competition winners are on display in the foyer and front corridor and prize giving will take place tomorrow afternoon. The standard in the Comórtas Filíochta was outstanding this year.
Feis Ceoil
Congratulations to the Senior Orchestra who won the Feis Ceoil today, beating our Junior Orchestra into second place.
Kilkenny Music Festival
Congratulations to all our pupils who competed in the festival. There were many winners in various areas. Special congratulations to the Senior Choir who won the Brennan Family Cup for Sacred Music.
Parents’ Association
Aisling Murphy gave an excellent talk on healthy eating for families at the end of Feb. The talk scheduled for 12th Aprilhas to be changed and we will confirm the new date in early April.
Electronic Games
Many classes will be allowed to bring in games on Wed. Please remember that this does not include electronic games, tablets, ipads, phones etc. These items are too valuable to be bringing to school and often cause conflict within classes.
I wish you all a pleasant, relaxing Easter Holiday.
