The new traffic markings are now in place. We ask all parents to follow the traffic plan. The “SET DOWN “ area has now been divided into a)three car park spaces and b)the drive through road which is clearly marked by arrows. This area is for dropping off and picking up only. NO PARKING. It is working very well in the mornings but not being utilised fully in the evenings. You need to tell your child to come to the red brick area at the front of the school and to be ready to be picked up.
The majority of the traffic problem is being caused by poor parking. Parents are arriving much too early and sitting in cars for 25 minutes taking up parking spaces. If you have organised with your child/children to come straight to the pick –up point at the front it should work smoothly. If your child is not there it is simply a matter of driving around once again-again a straightforward operation if the route is left clear.
The exit gate has been marked for two lanes right and left. This will also help to keep traffic moving. Do not block off either side by exiting in the middle of the gate.
Cars parked directly outside the gates are a major safety hazard as they make exiting difficult and are blocking a clear view of the road.
The Bus Bay should be left clear in the morning and at the 2.45 pick up time. It is not an issue at the 1.45 time as there no buses arriving. Once the buses have left at 2.45 , the final bus arrives around 2.56 so once space is left for this bus to enter and pick up the children safely, that space is free for cars.
If an accident were to occur with children having to cross through traffic because a car is parked in the bus bay, the parked car would be deemed to be a contributory factor.
The two Disabled Driver Spaces must be left free for the cars and bus which require them.
Once again, we ask for your co-operation and patience in this matter. It is imperative that the children’s safety is prioritised and is foremost in all our minds.
Silver Circle
Our permit finally arrived last week and the first draw is scheduled to take place next Wed. Nov 20th. Please support this venture as it is our largest fundraiser of the year. Money raised goes towards educational equipment and services. It is not used for the general running/upkeep of the school.
A special thank you to Mr Hanrick and Ms Conroy for taking on the organisation of this fundraiser.
Mission Money
Thank you for your generous support for the Enable Ireland Collection. Over €800 was raised and donated.
This Friday we will collect for The Philippines. All the children are aware of the havoc that has been wreaked by the recent typhoon and earthquakes. Several of our pupils have connections in the Philippines and our Sept. mission money goes to sponsor Twinkle Ann through Sr Helen who is working there.
Emails
Due to the great uptake on sending in email addresses we now have 75% of the parents logged and sorted into various class groups etc. This will be a huge help in general communication. We will continue to try to get more addresses in.
Sports
Best of luck to our boys “A” Panel as they contest the Roinn A final on Saturday Morning at 11am in Nowlan Park against the current title holders Thomastown. All support welcome.
Internal leagues in both boys and girls football are at semi final stages with finals due to be played next week.
Again a huge thank you to all the teachers who spend their lunchtimes in the field to organise and run these sessions.
Parents’ Association
There has been a great response to the request for volunteers for the hall clean up on Nov 30th. More volunteers are needed for the later part of the day.
Following several requests from parents, the association has decided to look into having a general policy on birthday parties. There is a survey on the website at the moment. Please access this survey and send in your opinion. Closing date Nov. 22nd.
