School Carol Service
All parents and friends are invited to our annual Carol Service in the hall on Thursday 19th at 1pm. All classes and children take part. As usual, as part of our preparation for our carol service, we are collecting non-perishable food items for the needy. We hope to build a “FOOD MOUNTAIN” in the foyer. Items will be collected from classes every day until Thursday and then the food will be sent to the local St. Vincent de Paul Society. Thanks to Ms O’Brien for her work in organising this event.
Christmas Plays
Christmas Play season is in full swing. If you are coming in to your child’s play please use the entrance door nearest the class room instead of the front door. Many of these plays are quite short so you need to be on time! Thanks to teachers, children and parents for their hard work in preparing and staging these plays.
Breakfast
St. Canice’s Breakfast takes place tomorrow, Friday Dec 13th. This is in aid of the Instrumental Music Programme and is very popular. Breakfast costs €4. This includes a ticket for the raffle.
Mission Money
573 shoeboxes were collected this year and dispatched on the army truck. A total of €2402.20 was also collected to contribute towards transport costs. It was great to have Sr. Brigid return to us from her retirement to co-ordinate this special project.
Community Hall
We are greatly indebted to the volunteers who turned out to give the community hall a much needed face lift. The place is looking fantastic and all the staff sends their thanks and congratulations on a job well done. Thank you to David Fitzgerald for suggesting the project and co-ordinating the volunteers and to Shane and Matt and the Parents Association committee for bringing it to fruition. As a follow up from the work we have managed to get the heating fixed and look forward to a cosy Carol Service this year!
Gairdín na Scoile
A huge thank you to Síle Moore, John Carroll, Shane Forsey, Valerie Brennan, Andrew Brennan (Jun), Breda Slattery, Eamon O’Connor and Malcolm Noonan for all their work in Gairdín na Scoile. Work began on Nov 9th and will resume in January. It is an ongoing process and your help and ideas would be gratefully accepted.
Numeracy Survey
Thank you for responding to our Numeracy Survey. Next step, as part of our Self Evaluation process, is to reflect on these results, the pupil survey results, the teacher survey results, testing results etc. over the coming months and then to form our School Improvement Plan in Numeracy. This plan will then be implemented over the next three to four years. Our Literacy plan is in Year 2 at present.
Weather
This last piece of information is now becoming a fixed item in this Christmas newsletter. There is no harm in repeating it. If weather conditions are bad enough at any stage to close the school, the information will be available on KCLR and the school website www.stcanices.net An email will also be sent to those who have submitted their names for the mailing list. We now have 95% of families on email.
