Catholic Schools’ Week
The theme for Catholic Schools’ Week this year is “Catholic Schools: Learning with Pope Francis to Care for Our Common Home” Various activities will take place during the week. Fr. Jim will visit many of the classes. We will celebrate mass on Feb 1st for St. Bridget’s Day.
Healthy Lunches
We will continue to encourage children to bring healthy lunches.
Confirmation
It is the custom in the school that 5th class children support their 6th class schoolmates by forming the choir for confirmation. As well as helping out on the day, this also gives the 5th class children an insight into the sacrament of confirmation and makes them familiar with the whole order of the ceremony. All 5th class pupils will be expected to sing at the Confirmation on Saturday February 11th. If there is a pressing reason why your child cannot be there please put a note in the homework diary to your 5th class teacher.
Thank you to the large number of 6th class parents who volunteered to lead the Parish Confirmation programme. It was a great success and is very beneficial to the pupils. The final workshop takes place Wed. 25th 8-9pm.
Junior Science Exhibition
Congratulations to Ms O’Connor’s 5th class who qualified to enter the Young Scientist Exhibition. This is a non competitive Science Fair aimed at Primary School students. They completed a project entitled “Do We, as Children, Need Instant Gratification?” The class journeyed to Limerick last Friday where they displayed their project and answered questions from various judges and interested parties. A great day was had by all. The project is now on display in the foyer and Ms O’Connor’s class are busy presenting their findings to their school mates on a class by class basis. Feel free to call in to view the project.
Credit Union Quiz
The annual Credit Union quiz takes place this Friday January 27th. Best of luck to the two teams who will represent the school. Senior Team-Caoimhe Mahon, Tom O’Neill, Sean Keenan and Seán Young and Junior Team: Hugh Greany, Liam Richardson, Aisling Browne and Cian Phelan. This year, unlike previous years, we are limited to two teams only. Thank you to Ms Sheehan for organising these teams and various other quiz activities and qualifiers throughout the year.
Parents’ Association
The Parents’ Association will be sending out a separate newsletter on their activities in the next few weeks.
Stay Safe
All classes will be covering the “Stay Safe Programme” at some stage between now and midterm. Details on www.staysafe.ie
Board of Management Reminder.
Please drop off and collect your children punctually. It is not fair to leave children waiting as they become anxious. The school yard is quite a daunting place outside school hours and is not an ideal environment for a child left uncollected. If you are delayed please phone ahead and we can reassure your child that everything is ok. The school playground is supervised from 8.40 to 8.50am in the mornings.
Parking outside the gates has become a problem as people are parking on the zig zag lines and obstructing the view of drivers exiting the school. It is a very dangerous practice and we ask you to obey the rules of the road and the road signs as this will help us all keep the children safe.
We would also ask you to treat fellow parents and staff with respect at all times.
Happy New Year to one and all.
