Easter Raffle
The Easter raffle will take place on Wednesday morning, April 9th. Thank you for all the lovely prizes donated and for your generous support in buying raffle tickets. All remaining tickets and money should be returned to the school tomorrow.
Junior Entrepreneur
The Junior Entrepreneur project comes to fruition tomorrow when Ms Delehanty’s class will sell their Lucky Bags. These cost €2 and are on sale for all pupils. The project will be showcased from 11.30 to 12.30 and parents of the class pupils are invited to join us in the foyer to view the project and discuss the work with the pupils. It has been a fantastic learning experience and a great team building initiative for the class. Well done to Ms Delehanty and her students.
Aistear
Junior Infants started an “Aistear” play programme at the beginning of March. If you are doing a Spring Clean at Easter and find any of the following items which you no longer need, the Junior Infants would be delighted to take them
· Lego
· Dinky cars, small world toys
· Cutters, rolling pins etc for play dough
· Hats
· Jigsaws (max 50 pieces)/ board games
Feis Ceoil
Congratulations to the A orchestra who won the Feis Ceoil today with 85 marks. The Peter Killian cup returns once again! Congratulations also to the B orchestra who were narrowly beaten into 2nd place. They got 84 marks. Well done to all the teachers, staff , parents and pupils who put so much energy, effort , expertise and commitment into the Instrumental Music Programme. It is an exceptional experience for pupils to be involved at such a high standard.
Illness
Please inform us by phone call or note if your child is ill. This is particularly important in the case of infectious/contagious disease. We use the H.S.E. manual to guide us in informing other parents of illness in a class.
Sport
The in-school hurling league is in full swing. Three boys’ teams have been entered into the inter schools’ championship and all have started their campaigns.
Camogie has started for all girls from 4th to 6th classes and many are involved in the A and B panel matches. A panel will play Gaelscoil, Kilmanagh and Gowran. B panel will play Danesfort, Johnstown, Presentation and Lisdowney. C panel matches to be arranged. 2nd and 3rd class girls begin training after Easter.
Mini Sevens resumes this year. Hurling and Peil na mBan take place in the school here tomorrow. Camogie and Boys’ Gaelic at a later date.
All pupils from 2nd to 6th are actively encouraged to avail of training in the field every lunch time.
Thank you to the large number of teachers who give up their lunch break to train groups in the field. It provides wonderful opportunities for the pupils.
Spelling Bee
Well done to our School Spelling Bee Champion David Conway who represented the school at the County Final in our hall last week. Unfortunately he did not make it to the next round. There could only be one winner on the day, the representative from Mullinavat.
No Uniform Day
This Friday a No Uniform Day will be held in aid of Cois Nore Cancer Support Service. Purple is the suggested colour but not obligatory. All donations gratefully received.
Parents' Association
Parents’ Association Dust off your antiques and collectables, clean up those old toys and sports gear, rummage around in your attics and garages the St. Canice’s Parents’ Association Car Boot Sale is on.
Date: Saturday, 7th June 2014
Time: 10am to 1pm
Where: St. Canice’s Co-Ed School, Granges Road.
Entry Fee: €10 (per car).
Along with the car boot sale there will be tea / coffee and cakes for sale.
There will also be an auction on the day so bring along your saleable items if you wanted them auctioned (more details to follow).
