Message from Mrs Comerford to all parents 12th March 2020 re school closure
Dear Parent,
As you may already know, there has been an announcement from our Taoiseach of the closure of all schools from tomorrow morning to March 29th.
This is a brief excerpt from the announcement:
"An announcement was made this morning by the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar TD of the closure of schools, pre-schools and further and higher education settings, for a period until 29 March 2020, to support efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19. This will take effect from 6pm this evening, Thursday 12 March. This is in line with the advice of the National Public Health Emergency Team.
All pupils and students, from pre-school to third level are urged to practice social distancing, and to minimise physical contact with each other, to help avoid the spread of Covid-19. This should include minimising social contact, avoiding meeting up and keeping physical space between them. Parents and guardians are urged to support their children to maintain this approach."
As a staff, we had discussed the possibility of this happening due to current circumstances and had agreed on a few suggestions that might help parents and students during this time.
During the school closure, we would ask all pupils to do the following:
SET teachers will send activity sheets home with some pupils today.
All pupils will bring home their school books, copies etc today.
Over the next few days I will send notification of various websites and companies who are offering free access to their online activities for this period. e.g. Managhigh.
I will keep in touch via Aladdin and will inform you of any relevant updates or events.
If you wish to contact me during the closure or have any queries please use this new email address as the eircom ones are now becoming obsolete-principal@stcanicesschool.ie
A big thank you to Dawn Meats who gave us use of the Blue Box yesterday. This was a very effective way to highlight the importance of good hand hygiene.
I hope that with all our co-ordinated efforts we may all keep safe and healthy through this unusual time.
