January 2023
Jan 25th:
This week has been Healthy Lunch week in our school. All staff have noticed the tremendous effort that families have made to have healthy and tasty lunches. It is great to see and we'd like to think that a lot of the healthy ideas we are seeing this week can be incorporated into our school lunches every week. We have uploaded several photos from the classes up onto our school Facebook page and they will also be up on our school website in the next few days. Healthy Lunch photos
Tomorrow 2nd to 6th class will be attending mass as part of Catholic Schools Week.
Tonight our Parent Association are holding their AGM at 8pm in the school. We hope as many parents as possible will be able to attend.
We would like to remind our school community that Friday is the closing date for acceptance of Admissions for Junior Infants 2023/24. Forms that arrive after this date are treated as Late Admissions.
20th Jan
Next week is our Annual Healthy Lunch Week. We have always promoted healthy lunches in our school but next week we will be making a special effort to have the healthiest lunches possible in the school. We look forward to seeing plenty of healthy lunchboxes throughout the week.
We are also taking part in Catholic Schools Week next week and on Thursday our 2nd to 6th class will attend mass on Thursday in St Canice's church to mark this week.

16th Jan
We would like to remind all parents that are using the front of the school to drop off/collect children to park in the correct spaces. Our school has several designated disability spaces and in recent weeks we have had some cars without disability permits using these spaces.
I would also like to remind parents regarding mobile phones and their use in our school-www.stcanicesschool.ie/use-of-mobile-telephones-and-electronic-devices.html
We know that in recent weeks some children may have received phones as Christmas presents but if they are in our school they must be turned off and left in school bags. If a member of staff sees a mobile phone it will be confiscated and returned to a parent/guardian.
Next week is the closing date for accepting admission forms for junior infants for the school year 2023/24. Admission forms which arrive after the 27th of January can only be accepted as late applications.
11th Jan:
As previously mentioned our Admissions Process has begun for the school year 23/24. Admission forms can be found on our school website-www.stcanicesschool.ie . If you had filled in an admissions form for your child in a previous year and dropped it in you will need to send in a new one. Recent changes in legislation do not allow schools to take admission forms years in advance.
Thank you for the great response we have had to our request for old books from our school community. We are using these to replenish our class libraries and if you still wish to drop in books that are no longer being used at home we would gladly take them.
We are asking that children who are using the school pitch at break time to bring in a spare pair of runners. At present the pitch is quite wet and muddy and we are doing our best to keep the mud off the classroom floors.
5th Jan:
