Finish league on a high note
21/5/14
We travelled to Castlecomer today for our last league game of the season and recorded a comfortable victory. That's leaves us on 12 points from our 6 wins and 2 losses ( Thomastown and Gaelscoil).
Castlecomer has lost the bulk of their last year's beaten finalist team. While they still have a strong spine, they were no match for us on the flanks. We led 4-8 to 0-1 at half time, but the two standout performers of the half were Niall Rowe and Sean Maher, both defenders. They were excellent. Others to impress in this half were David Walsh, Patrick O Shea, Rory O Connor, David Conway and Cillian Hackett.
We introduced 11 new players at half time, and as Martin Fogarty said after the match, many of them looked good enough to be included in a starting lineup. Of the "new batch", Ian O Keeffe, Jason Delaney, Eamonn O Reilly, Ger Byrne and Eoin Dalton caught the eye.
No league match next week- our next competitive game will be knock out, probably a quarter final. We need to be really well prepared- any team of the final 6 in the knockout stages are good enough to win the title.
