On the 15th April our dear secretary, Bernie, passed away. She died from pancreatic cancer, an illness she had borne with bravery and dignity for two years.
Bernie was secretary in our school for over twenty years. Everybody loved her. All the children knew her kindness and cheerfulness. She spent her break times taking girls out to the camogie field for training. She brought fifth class children out digging, sowing and planting in the garden. Bernie was full of life. We were so surprised to learn of her cancer because she had such a healthy life style. She grew her own food. Often you would find a couple of tomato plants or courgette plants left on your table by Bernie if she knew you were interested in growing them. Her work in the school meant a great deal to her. She loved the camaraderie and she contributed a lot to the spirit within the school. We miss her.
