> THE BANSHEE by Aoife > > > One wet winters night, a rich tradesman and his family were all in bed, but none of them could sleep because of the sound of the rain lashing against the windows. The man was tired of the sound, of wind and rain that he got out of bed and went down to the cellar, where he couldn't here the sound of rain or wind. > > The man was hardly asleep when he heard the sound of the wind howling. He was annoyed but went back to sleep swiftly. Not an hour later another howl came, the tradesman tried to ignore it but it was too loud for him to sleep. It was now the middle of the night and the poor tradesman had hardly gotten a wink of sleep. > > After another two hours of howling the noise stopped, so the man put his head to the pillow and fell asleep. The next morning the man got to find all of his children crowded around his bed, where his wife was still sleeping. He pushed past his children to see, his wife was dead. > > The man was dumbfounded. His wife hadn’t been sick and was still in her youth. A week later, while the man was walking along one of his many hallways, he heard one of the maids gossip. Intrigued he decided to listen in. > > "It must have been the cold that got her" > > "Ah no did you hear the howling the night that she died, it was the Banshee of course" > > Then the maid showed her friend a dark black comb and winked at her. |
The Banshee by Luka
My best friend Jack and Iwere in the woods at night. We were coming back from the shop when we heard a branch snap. It nearly hit my friend Jack so we started to run fast until we saw a faint white glow in front of us. We were not quite sure what it was so we decided to run back. The white glow then made a loud hiss noise which made myself and Jack run the long way back to my house, without realising. When we arrived at my house I told my mother what we saw. She said that she saw something going into the woods too. My mother quickly got her car keys as we jumped into the car. As my mother was starting the car I saw it coming for us, the thing that tormented us ever since we entered the woods. I told my mother to step on the pedal and drive for it. As quick as the blink of an eye we were off in no time. We got on the long road as there would be no traffic, but the car suddenly stopped because my mother forgot to put diesel into the tank. When we stopped my mother decided to jump out of the car and make a run for it, leaving myself and jack behind. We decided to hide under the car seats, out of sight of what was coming. Suddenly we heard another hiss noise right outside the car. For some reason it was then making a beeping sound. Then I was suddenly awoken by my mother running into my bedroom saying “time for school, Luka”, then I told her about the dream I just had. |
Cliona's Jungle Story
I breathed heavily, mouth dry, body tense. I was surrounded by a tight covering of green forestry with just a speck of blue peeping out to show that is was still in the real world. My heart leaped, as another agonizing scream echoed through the dense jungle. I had to keep moving! Every crack of a twig, every step of my thrown rubber shoes seemed to be like the sound had been multiplied by 1000. I dared to rest, silently on a beaten old rock, my eyes darting from side to side, never truly resting. How long have I been here? I have lost count. I fingered my now gashed and mud covered top. It was all I had left of my old life. My mind whizzed and turned, desperately trying to figure out a way for my next meal, yet deep down inside, I might not make it to my next meal. As I quickened my pace, I heard a soft, yet evil hissing behind me. I sucked in my breath, a rattlesnake. His black empty eyes were staring at me. I stared back, frozen in fear to make one tiny move. We stood there for what seemed like hours but was mere seconds before the rattlesnake, who seemed to enjoy this little game, bored of his frozen prey, slithered silently away. I waited a good 20 seconds before silently, as the snake darted away. That night, as I perched on an arched shaped tree, my memories from yesterday poured into my mind. The black widow, the pounce and the pain. I gently touched the small, bite size hole. I shuddered again with disgust before letting my eyes fall into a delicate lull. As I paced on through the jungle, my stomach screamed in agony. I had not eaten for 2 days straight. Anything, anything, just something to eat. Crazy with starvation, I desperately climbed a tree and grabbed an egg from a nest. My heart exploded with guilt at the thought of eating the poor bird's egg but desperate times call for desperate measures. Later on when all the animals were resting, I was slowly plodding on through this everlasting jungle. Once more, I heard that distinguished roar. It sounded like it was approaching and unfortunately, I was right. My heart skipped a beat, my legs turned to jelly and my feet turned cold. "Lion," I whispered softly. My mind froze. I could hear the strong sound of the lion's paws padding slowly towards me. At last, my brain snapped into action, I lay still on the ground like a dead body. The lion's breath poured down on me, smelling of stale meat and sweat. The lion stared at me with its big majestic eyes before haughtily walking away, convinced that I was dead. A bead of sweat lay perfectly on my cheek. At last, I took a breath before picking myself up from the ground and sliding away. A blast of sunlight coming from an opening made my legs stumble but made my heart stop. Could this be my escape? I ran, no flew all the way to the end. At last I was free from my prison.
Life is back to normal now. No more bites, lions and hunger pains. I may be free from the jungle but I will never be free from the memories and the pain.
