Canices A 4-4. Gaelscoil 0-0
Good start to new year
We won our first match of the New Year's Roinn A football league today with a win over Gaelscoil in James Park. It was a good performance, with many of our young boys making their debuts today.
The opening ten minutes was an even contest, with both sides having good scoring chances. We eventually gained control of the game, and when Mikey Clifford opened up with the first point of the year, it took the pressure off. Soon afterwards, David Kelleher scored the first of his two goals. Next, Killian Hackett scored the point of the match when he cut inside his marker and sent a left footed shot high over the bar. A Patrick O Shea pointed free was followed by an Eoin Dalton point, and just before half time, Killian scored a great goal to leave us 2-4 to 0-0 ahead
With the aid of the breeze, Gaelscoil put us under a little more pressure in the second half, but we defended very well. Ian O Keeffe and David Kelleher added two further goals in the second half, as we ran out easy winners. Good start today? But there will beach tougher battles in the coming weeks.
