Healthy Lunches
St. Canice's Health Promoting School Activities.
One of the areas targeted by the HPS committee is promoting healthy eating habits.
Last year our Parents' Association organised a dietician to speak to parents and also mounted a display on the sugars and hidden sugars in various commonly consumed foods.
This term we are revisiting our Healthy Lunch Policy.
For the next few weeks we will be putting an emphasis, in a positive way, on the healthy foods that children are bringing for their lunches.
Photos of children and their healthy lunches will be mounted on the noticeboards and efforts to bring and consume healthy food and drink will be acknowledged.
The HPS committee pupils will prepare a display of healthy foods and high sugar level foods.
Our healthy lunch policy is simple and can be summed up as follows:
"The school has a positive policy on healthy lunches. We encourage all pupils to eat healthy food and ask that sweets, drinks, biscuits, crisps, chocolate and fizzy drinks or fruit squashes are not included in lunches. Water or milk are the best drink options. The co-operation of parents is vital to this endeavour."
Please note- Cereal bars are not a healthy option.
As part of our work on healthy eating, we will be reviewing our existing policy. If you have any suggestions or recommendations for inclusion in the revised policy please email to canprincipal@eircom.net in the next fortnight.
