Roinn C/D playoff
Having finished level with Lisdowney in joint 4th place at the end of the 9 league games, a playoff was necessary to decide which team was to play in roinn C and roinn D. This game could not have been more evenly poised, as a draw was the outcome when both teams met earlier in the league.
This was a brilliant game of hurling with both teams giving their all to play in the higher division quarter final. We began brightly and our halftime lead of 3-2 to 0-4 was a true reflection of our dominance in the first period. However, we had seen enough of potential in the Lisdowney attack in that first half to know that they were far from beaten and it took some stout defending to ensure our victory in the end.
This may have been our "B" team but today we saw many "A" performances. In goal Jack Cleere was really impressive and his puckouts were topclass.
The display of our corner backs was nothing short of brilliant- Eoin Fennelly in the first half and Stephen Tynan in the second! Magic!! Brian Howe was a tower of strength at full back.
Rory Glynn was excellent at centre back- he did a great job on their key player. He was well helped by his wing men Brian Cantwell and William Gaffney.
Both our midfielders put in huge performances. David McGeary put in his usual high energy performance and Aaron Duggan showed lovely striking skills when scoring his points.
Up front we had many stars. Denis Hogan led the attack manfully. Luke Kavanagh returned to his best form and Stephen Lennon supplied lots of ball to our high scoring full forward line. All three here excelled- Eoin Gough, Shane Clohosey and the super Shane O Brien.
Darragh Houlihan also made a big impression when introduced early in the second half and is a great prospect for the future.
We now look forward to our next challenge, a quarter final match against high flying Mullinavat. They're good, but then again, so are we!!!
