Semi-final v St Patrick's De La Salle
OUR FIRST ROINN A FINAL
St. Canice's 2-10 St. Patrick's 1-4
We overcame St. Patricks at the second attempt on Monday June 28th in the Roinn A semi final played in Nowlan Park. We were lucky with the weather as a torrential shower stopped just short of the 6.00 p. m. throw in.
The first half was similar to our drawn game last Tuesday- we dominated possession but found it difficult to score. Again our half back line was in tremendous form, in particular David Glynn at centre back. JJ Hickey on his right and Ciaran Gough on his left had powerful performances. The halftime scoreline was 1-3 to 0-1- the goal coming from the stick of the opportunistic Evan Walsh.
We got the second half off to a good start by scoring our second goal through the impressive Evan Guilfoyle and from there to the end we played with the style and skill that we last showed some time ago. Nearing the end some of our Feile players, just back from the weekend, tired and St. Patricks finished with a great goal, but the game was over by this stage.
All our players played well today- our full back line was in top form. Colm McPartlan is a top class defender, Caimin Browne never put a foot wrong and Eoin Prendergast really enjoyed the second half when he was a spare man with the St, Patricks corner forward playing out the field.
Cillian Buckley showed his class at midfield, but for his workrate, running, first touch and striking, Andrew Cantwell was the star in this area.
David Gaule was the leader of the attack. His hurling skill has improved to an incredible degree this year and his scores were the highlight of the match. Aidan Nolan added to his growing reputation at wing forward- he was great. Evan Guilfoyle, Cian Tynan, Michael Hayes and Evan Walsh all made huge contributions in getting us to our first ever Roinn A final. We play title holders and favourites Clara.
