THE FIRST DAY by Cathal Murphy
It was the first day of Darren's new school. None of his friends were going there. They had all cried off a pound of their weight on the last day of primary school. He only had two friends- Paul and Harry. Paul had moved to England, while Harry was going to CBS Callan- it was the only one he could get into. Darren walked to school with the dreadful feeling of going to a new school friend free.
On his first morning his mother handed him five euros to by him self something to eat. When he was walking out of the shop he saw a group of teenagers walking out of a shop each holding a stick of glue stick. They made their way to an alley way, he could guess what they were doing. He had learned all about drugs in his old school. His class had even got a lecture about drugs by a reformed drug abuser.
Darren had got himself a packet of crisps, when the bell rang and all the other students gathered in the school. A group of first years were being told were to go by the teachers. He recognised a few people from his old school but none of them were as near close to him as Paul and Harry. He just couldn't wait until this day was over.
