v Thomastown
Not a great performance, but a win!!
A/B 3 St. Canice's 4-8 Thomastown !-7
For the second outing in a row , we experienced very poor weather on our visit to Thomastown, but in an odd way, it was the weather that came to our rescue in this game. When the referee, Brendan O Sullivan blew the whistle at half time the rain was coming down in torrents, but so too was the pressure from the boys from Thomastown, and we were definitely saved by the half time bell!
We started brightly and scored first with a goal from Cillian Buckley after 8 minutes, but from then to half time we gave second best to our opposition in many parts of the field and trailed at half time by 1-6 to 1-2.
Our second half effort was much improved. The leader was a novice to Roinn A hurling- Eoin Cantwell- scoring two goals and showing some of the more experienced hurlers how it should be done. We eventually ran out easy winners , 4-8 to 1-7, but this effort would definitely not do against stronger opposition. We had too many lads today who did not commit themselves to a total effort throughout the full game.
Some players showed a real willingness for the whole game. Best were Joe Keohane in goal, the full back line of Sean Treacy, Peter Turley and Thomas Phelan. Evan Guilfoyle at centre back, and forwards Eoin Cantwell, Peter Vickery, Sam Johnson, Gerry Walsh and Eoin Gough .
