Time Travel Trouble
By Sean Young
5th Class Ms. O’Connor
The bell rang, each child nervously walked in to the classroom with their projects. Today is the 9th of May, the date of our science fair.
As we walked down to the science room everyone whispered about the competition “William’s rocket shoes will win” said Mary. “No” Betty argued “Patrick’s everlasting batteries will.” But I knew my project would win.
We arrived in the classroom and saw the two judges sitting at the desk. Mr Johnson and Mrs Cleere were the two judges. “LISTEN UP!” Mr Johnson bellowed. “First up, we have Grace” Mrs Cleere announced. Grace presented her healthy chocolate. My mouth was watering. The judges gave her a B-. I would have given her A+. Next was Patrick. He presented his everlasting batteries. The judges were impressed and gave him an A-. I was next up. They called me up…
I took a deep breath before I spoke. “My invention is a time machine I call it the Zapper 2300.”I said. “It’s simple to use” I explained. “You simply just step in and type in where and when you want to go and whoosh your off”. “Take this we can video chat and you will see where I appear” I told them. “Watch this” I said. I typed 10th September 2001, New York City. I pressed enter and in a split second I disappeared…
I arrived on the streets of New York on rush hour. “As you can see” I said “The Twin Towers are still standing.” “Tomorrow they will both be all but dust and rock!” I mentioned. My time machine disappeared. “Oh no” I sighed. A large shiver ran down my spine. “That’s not meant to happen” I told them. Now everyone was starting to come out of work. “It must have been out of battery” I said. “Plug it in the plug is on the table” I quickly said. I always wanted to time travel but being stuck in another time is much worse than you would think! “Where is the plug socket on the machine” Mr Johnson asked. “It’s ….” I got knocked over by the crowd of men and women walking home my phone broke.
I wondered if they would ever find the plug socket. I hope they will find it quick and get me out of here before tomorrow comes. I lay down outside the bank. That is where I settled for the night. I said a prayer that I would get back home safe and sound. My eyes closed and my body shut down and I fell asleep on the sidewalk.
When I woke up I was confused. Why am I in New York? How are the Twin Towers still standing? But then I remembered. I checked my watch. 8:28am.The first plane crashes at 8:46 am. “That’s only 18 minutes away” I thought. 15 minutes later I dare not leave my spot just in case they came back for me.
Now the plane is in sight. I ran. But then I see it. The crash was mighty. And now flashing before my eyes I saw my time machine. Ms O’Neill was inside. “Hop in” she said “Quickly.” I jumped in. The next plane hit. I typed in the present date and whoosh we were off. Back in the present day Ms O’Neill showed me the paper with the results of the science fair was on.
“I Got A+ Ist position yippee” I cheered!
